Travel Destination - Rome - Italy

Rome is arguably one of the most historically fascinating capital cities in Europe. If you want to discover the history, culture and art of this wonderful city it is best to spend a few days visiting the sites and exploring the many museums. There are some excellent accommodation options in the city, but if it is a little luxury you are seeking then you should consider a stay at the Worldhotel Ripa Roma, one of the city's delightful boutique hotels. Complete with elegant rooms, an excellent restaurant and even a fitness suite it makes a fitting place to relax after a day pounding the streets and soaking up all that this city has to offer.
From hotels, such as the Worldhotel Ripa Roma, you can reach most of the museums and attractions easily. The staff of the Worldhotel Ripa Roma will be able to advise you on the best places to go to suit your desires. If you are interested in learning more about this ancient city, explore some of the best museums starting with the Vatican Museum. This is a collection of Renaissance palaces originally inhabited by the Popes of the time, all of which house some fabulous masterpieces. More recent additions have been made by popes who contributed to the collections in later years. The Vatican Museum is where you can visit the Sistine Chapel complete with Michelangelo's ceiling frescoes. Added to this stunning work of art are those frescoes painted by the artist Raphael housed in the famous Raphael Rooms of the Vatican.
Perhaps you would like to delve deeper into the city's history and make your way to the Capitoline Museum, RomeĆ¢€™s best archaeological museum to date. Situated on the Capitoline Hill this collection of art and archaeological museums date back to the 15th century. Today the museum is full of ancient Roman statues, inscriptions and many other examples of Roman artefacts. These artefacts include old coins, jewels and many other objects that featured in ancient Roman life. You will also find exhibitions of Renaissance and Medieval artwork in the museum making this place definitely worth a full day exploration.
When you think of Rome, art and sculpture are the first things that come to mind. The Borghese Gallery, within walking distance of the Worldhotel Ripa Roma and many of the other luxury hotels, is one of the most comprehensive of Rome's art galleries. The original sculptures and paintings date back to a certain Cardinal Scipione, the son of Ortensia Borghese. Many of the originals are no longer here and there are several new additions including the Canova statue of Pauline Bonaparte. In the early 1800s Napoleon bought a few hundred statues, busts, columns, vases and bas-reliefs from the museum, all of which are now part of the Louvre in Paris.
There are many other interesting museums in Rome, including The National Gallery of Antique Art, The Baths of Diocletian and The Octagonal Hall and the National Etruscan museum, all of which are worth a visit. And there is nothing more satisfying than spending a day sightseeing followed by returning to a little relaxation and pampering at a hotel such as the delightful Worldhotel Ripa Roma.
